Hey Jacobsen!

“Hey Google, turn on the lights!”

That’s how we begin our day in our small Silicone Valley apartment. We have now installed the Philips smart bulbs on almost all the lamps we have at home. It was very awkward in the beginning but now we cannot live without it. Our Google Home assistance is now wirelessly wired to my Arne Jacobsen table lamp.

The table lamp was something I wished for my Christmas gift a couple of years ago. Most Danes are probably tired of hearing about Arne Jacobsen by now but in fact, I realized that I don’t see many of his design at homes. He is probably most known for his Egg Chair and Swan Chair, which are typically furnished in hotels and lounges. I was looking at his table lamp design on one of those interior magazines and suddenly I had an urge to get one for myself. It is simple but unique and a perfect fit for illuminating the dark corner of the room. I love about the looped base design that makes the lamp weightless and the dark sharp look of the lamp head.

This week has been quite chilly and gloomy. The lamps are essential to the gloomy interior. In the US, people like to talk a lot about privacy so they made the windows very small. The weather was terrible but I miss the bright apartment we used to live in Copenhagen. Sad truth about living in Silicon Valley is that even a Googler cannot afford a house. We will be utilizing the Arne Jacobsen lamp and candles for now, and continue to keep on dreaming our bright and nice house on a hilltop.
